My 1st edition 40k Eldar Army

Hi all,

I had a rather positive response to my Arbites army on TMP so I thought I post up pictures of my Eldar army for 1st edition 40K. All the models are Games Workshop figures from the 80s/90s, old but still nice. The only conversions are the Dreadnoughts (wraithlords in GW speak today) which looked a bit stiff so I cut them about a bit to make them look more dynamic. I call this my E-bay army as everything in it was picked up on e-bay for very low prices. Many of the models had been painted (badly in almost all cases) but I didn't bother stripping the figures rather I just painted straight over the old paint job.

This army is based on the first Eldar list to have aspect warriors. There had been a previous Eldar pirate list, but that one I didn't like much. There are a few more aspect warriors to paint (fire dragons and howling banshee) to add some time to support all the guardians but for now I'm pretty pleased with how this army turned out.

A bit of sci-fi

Hi all,

just a quick post tonight. Thought I'd share some pictures of my Adeptus Arbites for 40k rogue trader (i.e. 1st edition). I did these a couple of years ago so I'm a bit hazy on the details. The infantry are plastic Junkers for urban war mixed with a few GW spares. The Robots are from the heroscape game and heavily converted. The dog handlers have some old citadel miniatures hob hounds for their police dogs. The car is captain scarlet fast food toy re-painted. The tanks I can't remember but they have turrets from Old Crow to replace the originals. Hope you like them.

More Britons and Romans

Hi all,

not much progress this week with my ancients project bad weather means heading down to the wargames room (some might call it a garage) hasn't been to appealing, couple with putting my back out a couple of days ago has put payed to much productive painting being achieved.

Having said that I thought I'd share a unit of British slingers with you like the warband they are a mix of Wargames Factory and Warlord Games Celts. The Wargames Factory Celts have slings as a weapon option on the sprue, so knocking up some left over figure into a unit of slingers was dead easy and looks pretty good I think.

The other pictures are of the casualty/shaken markers for my Praetorian guard I posted up last week. These are basically the four left over figures from the set (waste not want not) converted up to look dead for casualties, or two to a base in a mini diorama to represent shaken status. I pretty pleased with how these came out plastic really is so easy to convert.

Wargames Factory Celtic chariots

Hi all,

these arrived in the post today after I managed to pick them up for £12 and free p&p on e-bay. You can't really have an ancient British army without chariots. As usual though I'm on a tight budget so these looked like a good deal compared to the various metal versions out there. For my money I have enough pieces to make three chariots in 28mm which is good value. The set comes with three horse sprues,3 chariot sprues plus a command sprue and a shield sprue (all pictured above) I've knocked one up to show you what they look like note that the metal crewman is actually a foundry Celt (another e-bay find). I'll list the goods points and bad points below of course this all just my opinion others may agree/disagree

good points

1. The chariots themselves are nice easy to put together and have plenty of room for two figures. They also have the look of a British chariot to me.
2. The horses are a good size, in other words they look like a pony rather than some sort of shire horse. My cavalry from Warlord games are riding huge race horses that just look wrong for British cavalry.
3. The price, £4.00 each is a bargain even if you pay full price you're unlikely to find cheaper 28mm chariots I think.
4. Plenty of spare bits which I can use on scenery and for building casualty/shaken markers which is nice

Bad points

1. The crew figures are pretty awful. the seated driver just looks wrong his legs are really long if he stood up he'd be eight feet tall. Then we have queen Bobbieca who looks like something out of a fantasy novel complete with big chest and skimpy outfit,as a figure pretty useless to me. Even if you like her you hardly going to want one of her in every chariot. The other two crew are passable as drivers. I'd have liked to see some proper Celtic noble crew that would have really made this set. As it is I'll be swapping out the passengers for some metal foundry Celtic nobles.
2. The Horses are a bit soft on detail things like the tails and manes could do with more definition.

Overall I'm pretty pleased with these. Are there better models out there? yes there are but these aren't awful and at the price I can actually afford to have a decent number in my army. At the end of the day I'll be getting some more and I suppose that's the acid test.

AK-47 terrain

Hi all,

today's post is just a completely random selection of pictures of terrain I've knocked up for my AK-47 games. I've always been a dyed in the wool 25/28mm man so when I started out I had no 15mm terrain let alone anything modern or African.

I started off with some jungle/scrub templates (bottom picture) these are made from various model railway scenic kits on hardwood bases. Then I added some polystyrene hills using the same railway scenics.

Buildings where next. The airport building (third pic from bottom) is a 1/87 Heller plastic kit. The other buildings where scratch built from card and include an apartment block, some shops and some shanty buildings. At some stage I plan to add some of the Peter Pig resin buildings as well. The pylons are 1/87 railway scenery purchased of e-bay I think they look great of the wargames table.

Of course if you've got buildings you need a few vehicles a quick rummage in my sons car box and a look around Toys'r'Us furnished me with some lorries and cars in looks about right scale. I painted some of the trucks up to make a U.N. aid convey. The aeroplane was a cheap 1/1oo scale plastic kit from e-bay it's something Soviet (i can't remember what though) and is really just to furnish the airport.

AK-47 Objective Markers

Thought I'd post some pictures of my objective counters for use with AK-47. Every game of AK-47 requires three objective markers for the attacker to try and capture. I thought this would be a good opportunity to model some little dioramas to jazz up the wargames table. I plan to model three objective markers themed to each of my AK-47 armies. The first three are above

1. Objective one (top two pictures) is a rather generic crashed helicopter. This is made from a a very cheap and nasty plastic helicopter from my son's toy box. I beat it up a bit with a modeling knife and gave it a re-paint.
2. Objective two(middle two pictures) is a destroyed centurion tank of the Zumatan Royal guard. Again this was a cheap diecast toy from my sons toy box. I beat it around a bit and then gave it a rusty paint job to give the impression of a left over relic from a previous battle.
3. Objective three (bottom two pictures) is a Peter Pig film crew set with some spare paras. It represents the Zumatan army press liaison officer Captain Notell T'truth explaining to the world's press what happens to enemies of Zumata.

My Lumatan Army For AK-47

Hi all,

thought I'd stick some pictures of my Super power backed army of Lumata. The Lumatans are Soviet backed communist state. The background story for this army is that soon after independence from the U.K. in the 1960s the government of Lumata where over thrown by an uprising of the workers supported by the army. Appealing to the Soviet government for help the Lumatans where soon being equipped and trained by the soviet army. General the Lumatans are mortal enemies of the Zumatans but they have recently formed an alliance to crush the republic of Nbuto.

The Lumatan Military is split into three parts the Triple S (State Security Service) which is a para-military force well trained and equipped with modern light weapons. The Triple S where formed to deal with internal threats to the Lumatan government. The figures in the bottom picture are Triple S.

Next is the Peoples Lumatan Unified Militia (P.L.U.M.) these units are irregular militias most P.L.U.M. units where formed during the revolution. P.L.U.M. units are used by the government to round up governed opponents, patrol the border regions and carry out cross border raids on Lumata's enemies. P.L.U.M. are equipped with light weapons and various improvised heavy weapons in trucks. The next three photos up show P.L.U.M. units.

Lastly there is the Lumatan regular army (which includes naval and air force units). This is a Soviet supplied force trained in typical Soviet doctrine with large infantry, armour and artillery forces. The top five pictures show regular army units.

The miniatures for this army a bit of a mixture. The P.L.U.M. are Old glory African militia with toy trucks repainted. They weapons and crew in the trucks are Peter Pig. The regulars are irregular miniatures modern Soviets with QRF vehicles and artillery (except the artillery tows which are toy trucks). The Triple S are more irregular miniatures Soviets with a different paint job. The Helicopter is an old 1/100 plastic kit of a Jak-24p.
